I will turn the darkness into light
- I will enter His gates with thanksgiving in my heart,
I will enter His courts with praise;
I will say this is the day that the Lord has made,
I will rejoice for He has made me glad.
So, on this first Sunday in Advent, we look forward to celebrating the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and the message of hope and deliverance that his coming brings. I want to focus this morning on the theme of Hope as we look at a passage from Isaiah 42. As we do that, can I ask you “What do you hope for?” Is it a getting together of family and friends at Christmas? A vaccine against COVID-19 being delivered to all of us? Good health and to be able to go away for a holiday? These hopes and yours are all good and give us reasons to stay positive and look forward. However, the Hope that I want to focus on this morning is the long term hope that God promises which doesn’t depend on any of our current circumstances. This is really a light in the darkness and we’re going to celebrate that now.
