Movers & Shakers at Oakridge
Movers & Shakers (M&S) is an award-winning programme that engages older adults (55+), and supports them to lead healthier lifestyles. The project assists healthy ageing and wellbeing, enabling folk to live independent lives for longer.
Each three hour session (10.30am-1.30pm) consists of an hour at the beginning to chat, have refreshments, make crafts, do knitting etc. Followed by an hour of *Zumba GoldR exercise with Dorina Flores-Laird or Sally Higgins (all ages and abilities can be accommodated by our qualified instructors). Finally, at 12.30pm we join together for a healthy two-course lunch. The three hour session costs just £4.50! (Feel free to attend the exercise session only for £3.50).
Ali Irwin and Suzanne Wight are the main organisers but are very ably assisted by numerous volunteers and supporters from within the group who all have an important role to play in the strength and success of M&S. Almost six months has passed now and we have a core of about 20 regular attendees with new members joining all the time. We have a lot of fun and the feedback we receive reinforces the need for this valuable outreach. If you’d like to find out more, please come along on a Tuesday morning and give it a try!
